Melinda’s Missions Trip
But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me.
Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like
these children.” And he placed his hands on their heads and blessed them

Dear Friends and Family,
I have decided to return to South Africa this summer on a
short-term mission's trip. I will be serving with the same ministry, Helping Hands in Africa, as
I did in 2007. Some of you may remember this ministry from when my
sister Marisa and I were there with the Bethany Community Church team. This
summer I will be going with a team consisting of my sister Marisa and her
friend Tammy.
Upon our arrival in South Africa, we will be traveling to
the city of Mafikeng, which is located approximately four hours northwest of
Johannesburg. In Mafikeng we will be ministering at the Helping Hands’
learning centers and preschools in two villages located directly outside the
city limits. We will also be visiting two schools where Marisa instituted music
therapy programs. After our time in Mafikeng, our team will travel to other
villages to minister to their learning centers and preschools. All of the
children we will be working with on this trip have been significantly impacted
by the effects of HIV/AIDS, whether they are orphaned or vulnerable, which
means they have one living parent.
The trip I made to South Africa in 2007 sparked my
interest in missions. Since returning I have become involved in local service
projects and assisting local missionaries. I recently completed a course at my
church called “Pathways to Global Understanding” which is an in
depth look at missions in the Bible, the history of missions, and methods. This
class broadened my knowledge of missions as well as my own desire to serve. I
look forward to going into this mission’s trip with a fresh perspective.
